A court marriage gives you a marriage that is recognised everywhere — by the passport office, embassies, banks, insurers and courts — without depending on a large religious ceremony or family arrangements. In Ahmedabad, we help couples complete the process correctly and quickly, whether they are both from the city, one partner is from another district, or one of them lives abroad.
Two ways to get a court marriage in Ahmedabad
| Special Marriage Act, 1954 | Hindu Marriage Act + registration | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can use it | Any two adults, any religion or caste | Both partners Hindu, Buddhist, Jain or Sikh |
| Ceremony | Declaration before the Marriage Officer — no rituals needed | Religious ceremony (e.g. saptapadi at Arya Samaj or temple), then registration |
| Notice period | 30-day public notice before the marriage | Registrar's verification period under Gujarat rules |
| Witnesses | Three | Usually two |
| Conversion needed? | Never | Both must already be within the Hindu Marriage Act |
For inter-religion couples, the Special Marriage Act is almost always the right route. For couples who want a religious ceremony, a ceremony followed by registration is usually simpler. We advise on this on the first call.
What we do for you
- Eligibility check — age, marital status, residence and prohibited relationships, so there are no surprises later.
- Documents and affidavits — we verify every proof, fix spelling mismatches and draft the affidavits.
- Filing — notice or registration application filed with the correct Marriage Officer or Registrar for your area.
- Objections — if anyone objects during the notice period, we prepare your reply and appear with you.
- Marriage day — we coordinate the date, witnesses and signatures, and stay with you until it is done.
- Certificate — you leave with the government marriage certificate; we can also arrange extra certified copies and apostille for use abroad.

Court marriage fees in Ahmedabad
The total cost has two parts: the small statutory government fee for notice, solemnisation and certificate, and our professional fee for drafting, filing and representation. Our fee depends on your route and situation (for example, NRI or objection cases take more work) and is agreed in writing before we start — there are no hidden charges at the counter.
Frequently asked questions
Is a court marriage legally valid all over India?
Yes. A marriage solemnised under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 or a Hindu marriage registered with the Registrar is legally valid throughout India, and the certificate is accepted for passports, visas and all official records.
Can we do a court marriage in Ahmedabad if one of us lives in another city?
Yes. Under the Special Marriage Act, the notice is given in the district where at least one of you has lived for the 30 days before the notice. If that is Ahmedabad, the marriage can happen here even if your partner lives elsewhere.
Do we need our parents to attend?
No. Parents do not have to attend and their consent is not a condition for a valid marriage between adults. Gujarat's 2026 registration rules do ask for some parent details in registration cases — we explain what applies to you.
How many witnesses are needed?
Three witnesses for a Special Marriage Act marriage. For registration of a Hindu marriage, the Registrar usually requires two witnesses who attended the ceremony. Each witness needs ID and address proof.
