Advertisements promising a court marriage certificate in one day are common. Here is what is genuinely possible in a day — and what is not.
Search for court marriage in Ahmedabad and you will see promises like "court marriage in one day" or "certificate on the same day". Some couples who rely on them later discover that the document they received does not work for a passport, a visa or a court case. Here is the honest picture.
What cannot be done in one day
- Special Marriage Act marriage. The law requires notice to be published for 30 days before the marriage. No officer can lawfully skip this.
- Government registration in Gujarat. Registration of a religious marriage involves verification, and Gujarat's 2026 rule changes add a waiting period before the certificate is issued.
What can be done in one day
- A religious ceremony, such as an Arya Samaj marriage between two Hindus, can be performed in a few hours if documents are ready. That ceremony creates a valid Hindu marriage if all the legal conditions are met.
- Preparing and filing your documents and notice, so the legal clock starts immediately.
Why it matters
A certificate issued by a mandir or a notarised "marriage agreement" is not a government marriage certificate. A notarised marriage agreement in particular has no legal value as proof of marriage. Embassies, passport offices and courts look for a certificate from the Marriage Officer or Registrar.
